Ce dimanche 5 juin, la Corée du Nord a effectué un essai de huit missiles balistiques de courte portée. Alors qu’un essai nucléaire du régime est annoncé imminent, Pyongyang continue de tester son arsenal balistique à un rythme effréné. Ce qui est la 18e démonstration de force de la Corée du Nord depuis le début de l’année intervient dans un contexte sécuritaire très tendu dans la péninsule et alors que Pyongyang continue d’affronter une épidémie de Covid-19.

Pour la première fois depuis 2017, les exercices militaires conjoints entre la Corée du Sud et les États-Unis impliquaient le porte-avion américain USS Ronald Reagan, un navire de 100 000 tonnes à propulsion nucléaire. De jeudi à samedi, les deux armées alliées se sont entraînées dans les eaux internationales au large de l’île japonaise d’Okinawa. Cela fait suite à la promesse des présidents sud-coréen et américain d’étendre ces exercices militaires qui déplaisent à Pyongyang. Lire la suite...
